Actor, producer and director Kiefer Sutherland will bring his band to this year’s TD Toronto Jazz Festival. Best known for his television role as Jack Bauer on 24, Sutherland’s debut album tour will be coming to the Horseshoe Tavern on June 27, 2016. The LP, ‘Down in a Hole’, is made up of 11 rootsy tracks about Sutherland’s personal experiences.
Sutherland explains, “There is something very satisfying about being able to look back on my own life, good times and bad, and express those sentiments in music. As much as I have enjoyed the writing and recording process, I am experiencing great joy now being able to play these songs to a live audience, which was something I hadn’t counted on”.
Inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2005, this is not Sutherland’s first venture into the music scene. In 2002 he founded the Ironworks record label with best friend and singer-songwriter Jude Cole, hoping to assist aspiring musicians with recording and distribution. Artists included Rocco DeLuca and the Burden, HoneyHoney and Billy Boy On Poison.
Sutherland left the label in 2009 to figure out his next steps, but returned to Cole in early 2015 with two songs he hoped other musicians could record. Those two songs evolved into his debut album, which Sutherland is currently taking across America from April 14 to May 28. Sutherland has 11 dates set in Canada, performing in both Ontario and Quebec.
His TD Toronto Jazz Festival appearance at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern on Monday, June 27 will wrap up Sutherland’s tour of Ontario. Posted by Kathryn Lawler
