Has your scat gone flat? Is your cadence feeling less than perfect? Jazz for the Teach provides interactive sessions geared towards middle and high school music teachers looking to hone their jazz teaching skills. Led each year by seasoned jazz performers and educators, Jazz for the Teach sheds new light on jazz in the classroom and helps remove some of the mystique surrounding improvisation, leading a jazz ensemble and more.
The 2016 edition of Jazz for the Teach was presented in collaboration with the Toronto Catholic District School Board: on February 12, 2016 at Dante Alighieri Academy as part of the TCDSB Professional Development Day, we presented one session on jazz fundamentals led by Heather Bambrick and Michael McClennan, and a session on big bands led by Terry Promane.
Plans for the next Jazz for the Teach sessions are still in the works - check back here later this year for more information.
Toronto Downtown Jazz educational programming is presented with the generous support of the Ken Page Memorial Trust and The Asper Foundation.
