6 pm doors / 7 pm show
Over the years Alex Samaras has grown adept at singing everything from Radiohead to Count Basie against a Big Band backdrop, but on December 1st he'll be stepping up to lead one of his own, featuring an eclectic array of covers arranged by an all-star, all-Torontonian cast including Chelsea McBride, John Macleod, Tara Davidson, Harley Card and Brian Barlow and conducted by Tom Upjohn.
In addition to its lush ensemble sonics, the evening will channel Samaras' natural performative instincts into new and unclassifiable realms. Employing theatre, lighting, and storytelling, this event will reflect compassionately on the human experience, and our ongoing struggle to connect.
Presented as part of the Geary Lane Jazz Series and proudly supported by the TD Toronto Jazz Festival. Complete information on the Geary Lane Jazz Series available here.
The Geary Lane Jazz Series has been made possible in part by a generous grant from the Ontario Arts Council.
Toronto vocalist Alex Samaras, one of Canada's leading jazz vocalists, is as visceral as he is versatile. Whether singing standards, wayward covers, art song, or his own compositions, his performances are totally embodied and brimming with disarming candour - he is known as a "singer's singer" within the Toronto community.
